Women's Residential Retreats
Coming Home is an ongoing group of up to eight women who continue to meet two times a year at Balsam Lake Ontario. This group has been together for several years and the women benefit from the sense of community that comes from journeying together through different life passages. The company, the food, the fireplace and the lake contribute to a sense of renewal. Two places have opened up in this group.
The Way of the Wise Hearts, A Six-Month Program of Self-Care, Offered by Lucia Lee and Liz White
October 2014 - April 2015
This is the fifth year of the Wise Hearts, a community of women
committed to setting aside six months to set goals for themselves
in lightening their lives, and to give the time, energy and resources
to achieving them The program is a combinationof personal reflection
and focus, one-to-one support, and residential group workshops. Life
goals are realized in our lives lived duringthe six months, and acknow-
ledged in the group which offers a safe, supportive and good humoured
environment. Issues of belonging and acceptance are answered in the
group, The program begins with an initial interview.
Three residential weekends, at the beginning, middle and end of the
program offer a community to meet, enjoy, learn from, work with, and
belong to. These take place in the country, with music, rest, walks and
a labyrinth. The core of the group work is psychodrama. Our resident
poet, Elizabeth Pickett takes us on a journey of reading and writing
that bring us home to ourselves. We move as a community from autumn,
through winter to spring, appreciating the beauty of the landscape as it
reflects changes in our own lives.
Participants will meet with a leader after each weekend for a follow-up
individual session to process the experience, reflecting on progress and
challenges in moving toward their goals and in their sense of belonging
in the group. Click for more information
The Midsummer
Women’s Five Day Retreat welcomes up to 12 women to a summer cottage on an island in the Muskoka lake district of Ontario. Co-led by Lucia Lee and me, we take time away from the demands of our lives, we open our minds and hearts to whatever supports life and freedom. We follow a theme that weaves throughout the five days together. The food is wonderful. The setting offers porch swings, canoes, swimming, rowing, sleeping in the cabins,
welcoming the sunrise and sunset. We begin each day with quiet time in the meadow, followed by group meetings in the morning, at about four o’clock and for lively evening community. The long lunch breaks offer time to reflect, to share time with others, to take advantage of the activities that beckon.
In an atmosophere of good humour and mutual respect, we will combine personal psychodrama with attention to the ways in which our group life impacts us. We will share experiences of stillness and of life-giving and will celebrate our authentic selves in the safety of the group process.
